Week 2 Mushy
Week 2
This reminded me of the "War on 1034" from so many years ago...
Home Battery?
Aha, I've been advocating this for years - it's not yet available in Friesland. Good heavens, they were for sale from IKEA in Germany and Belgium - the Netherlands went another route in paying for the energy produced - but that has now stopped and the electricity companies actually charge people to "carry" the electricity that they produce - obviously far better to store it....it remains fairly costly - I hear people say that it would take "so long" to make their money back...the same people that will buy a car without a second thought about making their money back - some things are just the right thing to do.
I have a quote for new solar panels AND a home storage battery - but I also have a quote for a new roof on one of the apartments - so the rules about stretching the budget still apply...
Apply for a subsidy for a home battery!
From Monday, January 12, residents of Flevoland (the reclaimed land) can apply for a subsidy for a home battery. A home battery allows you to store self-generated solar power and use it later.
From Monday, January 12, residents of Flevoland can apply for a subsidy for a home battery. This way, we want to stimulate the use of sustainable energy and help reduce energy costs. A home battery makes it possible to store self-generated solar power and use it later.
On the subsidy page you will find all information, conditions, and the application form.
Deputy Harold Hofstra: With this subsidy, we make it easier for Flevoland residents to store their own energy and reduce their energy costs. Together, we work towards a sustainable and reliable energy system.
Who is the subsidy for?
The subsidy is for homeowners and tenants. Tenants need permission from their landlord to install a home battery.
How much subsidy can you get?
If you buy a home battery, you get 25% of the costs back. The amount is at least €750 and at most €1,250 per application.
You can apply until October 1, 2027. A budget of €875,000 is available for both 2026 and 2027. The subsidy is granted in order of receipt of complete applications.
Around the Farm
A comedy of errors...
Sunday morning now - but still fresh in my mind from yesterday - Janny's Mum had beeping from one of her three smoke detectors - so I grabbed my step ladder and Janny rode her bike to the supermarket to get new batteries - the square type.
The detectors are the hard wired type which have a battery for back up in case the power fails. So, I eventually changed the battery in the living room detector, put the step ladder away and continued cooking my meat pies...
...only to get a text message (from the 93 year old!) "Ken, it is still beeping"...
Sigh, step ladder out again, thinking, all three are interconnected - ie if one goes then all three make a noise - is that the same for the batteries? nah, but I'll change the batteries in all three, just in case.
I left the step ladder there just in case... and sure enough - it kept beeping. Searches internet - "even hard wired detectors can become faulty after 7 - 10 years" hmm, maybe that's it?? Now, I'm also getting deaf and the sound appeared to be "bouncing off the front wall" - ahh, that's OK - I really am getting deaf, it must be me...
We even thought of disconnecting the power so that Mum could sleep OK - but even with the power off the dm thing kept beeping...
So, with all three of us listening for the culprit smoke detector - Janny finally cried out "it's the door bell!!"
So, we laughed and swore ourselves to secrecy...
Food delivery bogged
By Monday, the snow was turning mushy. We had a new Hello Fresh driver who veered off the (wrong) driveway - with his 3000KG electric van. My little tractor was of little use so we arranged a tow truck...
In the meantime the young driver came inside with us and had a drink and some of our Pizza which we were having instead of Hello Fresh...
He was only 19 and studying "Finance" at a university in Groningen - it reminded me of Grandchildren Tom, Alexander and Callum - all studying and/or working in Finance.
As with most young people, his English was excellent and so we had a pleasant exchange and then saw him off after the tow truck - most meals were going to be late....
He sent us some flowers on Tuesday - very thoughtful...
Still walking...and Binge Watching TV. Finished Slow Horses and last night all 7 episodes of Hijack...
Lots of mud now that the snow has gone...
OK, I need to work on the pastry...
